Exercise: Escalators
Juice (lent): apple/pineapple/spinach and lime juice; orange/spinach juice and coconut/pineapple/apple and orang juice
I got the coconut combo juice from Crush which is a really cool juice bar but am finding that bought squeezed juices just don't taste the same as the ones I prepare at home. Okay I know that is hardly a revelation. Humour me I'm thinking out loud.
The escalator habit has kicked in, I can't stand still on an escalator anymore. Of course going down is easy but going up is a whole different ball game. But now I always climb up, I think last saturday I did four and that's after a run and bodyweight exercises. The escalators are great for me because I don't have to make time for them, they are already a part of my life, I'm just leveraging them for my fitness goals!
It was my birthday on Mother's Day, but was a very low-key. So I have decided that I am having some belated birthday TLC, afterall you only get one a year, well unless you're the queen. So I have back-ordered all 20 back copies of Living Nutrition magazine (now re-named vibrance) www.livingnutrition.com and look forward to delving in. Plus I have been given a Vogue subscription as a gift. Vogue has always been my favourite women's magazine. The writing is top quality and there's the photography, the clothes. It's just another form of art. I never cease to be amazed what people can do with a bit of fabric! I just love absorbing it all, it's not about accumulating stuff, although the option to acquire is always there! I did buy myself a lovely floral vintage dress for my birthday. It's so different and brings a big smile to my face when I wear it, and some admirers too! I have also been treated to an Elle magazine subscription, my second favourite fashion mag, young, street and very British. So I think my twin passions (not strictly true there are a few more) of food and fashion are covered.
Not quite!
I have also bulk bought some cases of Dr Martin's Coco milk for when I fancy an especially yummy smoothie or for adding to banana ice-cream. http://www.dr-martins.at/home.php And the last thing is I am going to order myself an all-natural scrummy raw birthday cake from Raw fairies! www.rawfairies.com once I'm back on solids again.
That's what you call TLC and it starts at home. Look after yourselves now.

The Wringer
Exercise: Escalators, walking
Juice (lent): Apple/spinach/lime and pineapple juice and orange juice
Yesterday was feeling a bit vulnerable, nothing major just something hovering in the background. The day had been going great I'd had a coaching session late morning and then got stuck into some financial stuff as it was raining so couldn't go for a run! Went out later and also spent time chatting to a friend. But it was later when I got home that a situation came from leftfield. I didn't handle it very well and I still feel rather drained. Early night went straight out the window.
I think if I had been eating solids I might have gone and bought a bag of chips! I probably would have eaten something, more like overeaten something. But I could feel the upset in my stomach. Really understood the advice of not eating when upset or feeling negative emotions it only stresses the body. So thank God I wasn't eating!
But afterwards I was glad it had happened I got to see more of me and also an emptying too. Thanks 'lovely friend' for your encouraging words. I feel raw (pun unintended) but at peace. I also got to make a choice that maybe I wouldn't have made before, so that is growth even if it was very messy.
On a lighter note I went for a friend's birthday drinks on Saturday at a club in the West End. Another friend who I was chatting to, asked me if I was a dancer. I just assumed because we were in a club that she was asking if I liked dancing. So I replied yes, because I love dancing. And then she asked 'ballet?' And I said 'no why do you think that?' and she said 'because you are so lean.' A ballet dancer!

Success and Being Successful
Exercise: escalators
Juice (lent): orange/spinach juice, apple/pineapple/spinach/lime juice and pineapple/grape/celery juice
I am really enjoying my juice. My favourite at the moment is the apple combo, it just hits the spot and it's lovely and green! And for the past few weeks Sainsbury's has had some great offers on fruit and vegetables. Pineapples are 2 for £2.50 and bags of six oranges are 2 for 2.50 as well. And for a while I could get three bags of spinach for the price of two. It is really helping with my food budget! Yesterday I bought 6 pineapples, 8 bags of oranges, 5 bags of spinach, 4 packs of celery and a few limes, 15 apples, 2 boxes of grapes which came to just over £30 and lasts for over a week.
My fast is helping me immensely to have huge clarity. It's great because I'm doing things where I have to flex my courage muscle, so is helping me resist being pulled back to Comfort Zone!
I had a big weekend last week and didn't feel I had enough sleep. I can function very well on little sleep but I'm aware not to push that if I'm sensing I need more. Plus I had a couple of afternoons where I felt very drowsy as opposed to tired. So last night made a point of going to bed early (midnight!) and had a full seven hours. I woke up feeling very refreshed. I have made a note to myself that if I feel sleepy I make sure I sleep, if I need to go to the toilet I go, If I'm thirsty I drink water in order to help keep balance in my body.
Also listening to more Bob Proctor audio. This time on success. The definition of success quoted is a gradual progression towards a worthy goal. You know how we often think we know the meaning of certain words but when we actually think about it we actually don't! I think success is one of those words because most often it is thought of as the end of the journey, but it is really doing all that it takes along the way.
When I look at that clear definition and apply it to my life, relationships, wealth, health, creative expression I realise I am successful, howsabout that!!
Goal-setting is great, particularly BIG goal-setting, however the goal is only one piece of the jigsaw, it's what we learn on the way to achieving the goal that is the real treasure. In my quest to reach my health, wealth goals etc. I am learning to become more courageous, I'm inspired, I'm becoming more knowledgable on specialist subjects, becoming mentally tougher, more intuitive, building character (this is a key one), taking responsibility for my life, helping and encouraging others, making great friends and meeting great people, developing my talents, and everyday am so grateful for how my life is changing and I'm growing.
Do you think you might want to set a goal or two?

The Greater or the Lesser
Exercise: Run, escalators
Juice (lent): orange/spinach, orange and pineapple/grapes/celery, and apple/lime/spinach/pineapple
Had another 'ping' moment today! Realised it is a far better thing to attach yourself to the 'greater' rather than the 'lesser'. Because the greater includes the lesser so you don't limit the abundance in your life. But if you attach to the lesser at the expense of the greater then you will miss soooo much.
Let me explain, it is a far better thing to attach to health rather than raw food. Because health will include raw biologically appropriate yummy food and so much more, beautiful sleep, great relationships, abundant exercise and so on. If you simply attach to raw food you miss out on all the other goodies, plus you could end up doing it in an unhelpful way due to the 'missing links'.
It's the same thing with money and wealth. Money is great, but it is the lesser, attach to money and you could end up with a rocky ride! It's not something we are meant to attach too. But attach to wealth and money is included. Comprende? Wealth is basically the position of being able to do what you want with your time in a way that brings you great joy and only enhances your relationships. Liking the sound of that indeed. And there many other examples, so liberating.

Decisions, Decisions
Exercise: Lots of walking, and dancing later
Juice (Lent): pineapple/celery and pineapple/apple/lettuce/lime
I was listening to some Bob Proctor audio today. This particular session was about decision-making. Bob was explaining that ambivalence is the state of having directly opposing thoughts on the same objective. And this leads to a state of perpetual indecision. It's a bit like going raw, you know inside of you that this would make a huge difference to your state of health but at the same time you think going raw is too difficult, your family won't understand, or you want to be able to eat as much processed food as you like even though you have clear evidence it is not helping your health.
But indecision is only a secondary cause of ambivalence, low self-esteem is the primary cause. Even if you don't think that's the case or it doesn't look like that's the case!
It's so important not to let your resources or lack of resources dictate your decisions. Your decision-making should be based on whether you want to (links back nicely to a previous post, completely unplanned!) not what you've got or not got. So many dreams are shattered because of circumstances.
The golden nugget here is that your circumstances are inconsequential. It does sound counter-intuitive but it's true. So if you truly want to go raw (regardless of how much)just decide it in your heart now, and the rest will follow.
Before last year I had been ambivalent about marriage and relationships and I know where the root of that was planted. But last year I decided to research the whole area, to search myself, trust God and be intentional in deciding what I wanted. It is very liberating and once that happened I kept coming across amazing materials, people etc and the story continues. So decide if you want to (and why!) and once you do it's like a magnet attracting iron filings, things will begin to fall in place, the 'how' becomes clearer. And there may be setbacks and wobbles but it's different now, because you know what you want they seem insignificant, their impact is significantly reduced, and instead is harnessed to propel you forward.
Another key is to decide in advance what you want instead of waiting until you are in crisis mode, it brings confidence and aids persistence. So let's say you are going out for dinner with friends, you've decided you definitely want to go but it'll be a standard restaurant and you're committed to raw. Decide whether you're happy to eat cooked, or check that the menu offers a suitable salad, or ring up before and make a special request. It's taking charge of your life instead of leaving it to circumstances.
I have been learning this stuff over the past couple of years and seen the results. But hearing the statement that decisons should never be based on circunstances, on whether you can take the time off, can afford it etc, but only because you want to (and you know why you want to) is for me simply amazing. It's another tool for living a purposeful life!
Knowing what you want is the first step to getting what you want.

Ma's Joined The Party Too
Exercise: Run, escalators
Juice (lent): orange/pineapple/celery, apple/spinach/celery, apple/coconut/carrot/orange
I spoke to my Mum yesterday, who is eating raw. It was great to hear the excitement in her voice. She said it was the mental clarity that was most welcome, and I have to agree.
I do appreciate the physical benefits. A healthy glow, stronger, suppler and leaner body, cleaner internal environment, great skin, even more energy! But in our society today it is not hard to look great with nice clothes, a good hair cut or blow-dry!, slogging it out at the gym, cosmetic surgery, beauty treatments, make-up etc. But you can't really paint on mental clarity, which is evidenced by the queues in and out of the local coffee shops ;)
But the mental clarity combined with spiritual awareness when eating raw is priceless. These result in,
- 'Getting things' that other people don't seem to get on the whole i.e. more wisdom
- The understanding that you are here for a reason and a 'pull' to find out what it is
- A serious intolerance for anything that curtails your true and creative expression
- A desire to be outdoors even if you were never an outdoors person!
- A catalyst for change in every area of your life, relationships, money, expression, confidence, exercise habits, interests, spiritual growth etc
- A feeling that truly life is a great adventure/playground/bowl of cherries ie something to be interacted with and not just drift through
- A greater understanding of your core values, and any incongruencies that have evolved over the years
- Courage to let go of past beliefs and fears that you have been projecting into your future
- Either realising that you 'hate' your job or that you mind is clear to fully engage in a job you love
My intestines are clearing out. Nothing particularly special to look at. But from the smell I can tell it's old stuff that is being removed, as normally there is no smell when I go to the loo. For me that is a major sign that eating raw is not just a good thing but a significant thing to do. But we have learnt to accept so many things as normal and it takes guts to do things in a different way. But thank God he made us gutsy, we just need to realise it!
It gives me untold joy to see people around me making healthier choices everyday. Two other family members are now raw, one has gone veggie, a friend has gone vegan, another friend gave up her red bull and cola habit. Others are avoiding the office confectionary. I noticed that since I have been single-handedly supporting the banana industry, many more bananas are appearing on desks, including whole bags!

Raw Food Does Not Heal
Exercise: Walking, push ups
Lent juice: carrot/apple/ginger, orange/apple/celery, and orange/lettuce
I love fresh fruit and veg and my body does too! But just for the record they do not heal the body in the same way that medicines and other gubbinge we put in the body do not actually heal the body, medicines may suppress symptoms, provide relief etc. That is why the idea that there is a cure for anything is just such a big and tragic myth. The body does its best to get on with healing despite many interferences!
The body is designed with a powerful self-healing mechanism. What raw foods do is provide the right raw (ha ha) material for the body to work with. So this facilitates the smooth running of bodily processes including healing.
We are mind, body and spirit and these all interact with each other. So the state of one's mind can affect one's body and vice versa.
In order to promote healthy living we want to clear the way for body, mind and spirit to get on and be fully body, mind and spirit.
But because we have so veered away from nature's principles in how we live our lives it can now seem like when you go raw that it is the panacea for all things. What is actually happening is you are removing the things that stress the body and increase it's toxic load, and therefore you start to feel more alive in body mind and spirit. And the degree to which you feel more alive in the long run will be in direct relation to what you put in or take away from your body, mind and spirit. This is not just about eating food but also thoughts, beliefs, emotions and other behaviours.
But needless to say our obsession with food and especially cooked food is one of the biggest factors in not achieving the health we are born for. I do not think it is simply a case of cooked food bad and raw foods good. That is too simplistic, the food whatever it is will always be whatever it is, it's us that get to choose what we do with it. We need to be mindful and intentional in what we do in the present by referring back to our values and looking forward to what we want.
It is what we do with what we know that counts.
